A standard porta potty has a toilet seat over a 60-gallon waste tank, a wall urinal, a hand sanitizer dispenser, two or more rolls of toilet paper, a roof vent and an occupied indicator lock. A translucent roof lets in daylight, so the standard unit has no electric light.
- Toilet and urinal: men use the urinal, which keeps the seat cleaner for everyone.
- Hand sanitizer: wall dispenser, refilled at every service. For running water, add a hand washing station.
- Deodorizer: blue chemical in the tank controls odor between services.
- Door lock: slide latch with an occupied sign. A hasp for your own padlock is free on request.

Standard porta potty dimensions: will it fit through my gate?
A standard porta potty is about 44 inches wide, 48 inches deep and 7.5 feet tall. The unit fits through a 48-inch gate, but a 5-foot gate is easier because two people carry it on a hand truck. Overhead, allow 8 feet of clearance under branches or eaves.
| Spec | Standard unit (approximate) |
|---|---|
| Width | About 44 in |
| Depth | About 48 in |
| Height | About 7.5 ft |
| Footprint needed | 4 x 4 ft, flat |
| Empty weight | About 150 lb |
| Waste tank | About 60 gallons |
| Uses before service | About 200 uses |
| Hookups | None |
Sizes vary slightly by model. If a gate is under 48 inches, the unit goes in the driveway or on the street side of the fence. Read where to place a porta potty for access tips.

A standard porta potty is the right choice for construction crews, backyard parties, ballfields and events under about 4 hours. A standard unit is the wrong choice when guests expect a sink, when a wheelchair user will attend, or for a formal wedding where a restroom trailer fits better.
| Situation | Standard unit? | Better option |
|---|---|---|
| Framing or roofing crew of 12 | Yes, 1 unit | Add a hand washing station if food is eaten on site |
| Backyard birthday, 60 guests, 4 hours | Yes, 1–2 units | — |
| Wedding with 150 guests | Works, but guests notice | Restroom trailer or flushing units |
| Public festival or park permit | Yes, plus accessible | Wheelchair-accessible unit in each cluster |

Questions people ask before they book
Does a standard porta potty have a sink?
No. A standard unit has hand sanitizer only. Add a two-sided hand washing station from $150 per event, or rent a flushing unit with a sink inside.
Does it come with toilet paper?
Yes. Every unit arrives with at least two rolls, and weekly service restocks paper and sanitizer. For a busy weekend event we leave extra rolls inside.
Can I lock the porta potty before my party?
Yes. Ask for a hasp at booking and use your own padlock. Leave the key with someone on site so guests can use it once the event starts.
How many people can use one standard unit?
About 200 uses between services. That works out to roughly 50 guests over a 4-hour event, or a crew of up to 20 on a weekly service schedule.
Is the unit clean when it arrives?
Yes. Every unit is pumped, pressure-washed, disinfected and stocked before it leaves the yard. Event units are kept separate from jobsite units.
