Restrooms for Hurricane and Storm Recovery

After a storm, the first need is often a working toilet: for families with no water, for roofing and debris crews, and for churches running relief sites. Units go out as soon as roads are open.

How soon can restrooms arrive after a hurricane?

Restrooms can arrive as soon as roads are cleared and declared safe, which on the Mississippi coast is usually 1 to 3 days after landfall for main routes. Orders are scheduled first-come in the order they are placed, so call as soon as you know you need a unit.

Before landfall, when a hurricane or tropical storm watch is issued, rented units are strapped down or picked up. After the storm, those same units go back out to existing customers and new recovery orders. Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30 (National Weather Service).

Who needs restrooms during storm recovery?

Four groups need restrooms during storm recovery: families whose water or sewer is out, roofing and debris-removal crews, churches and nonprofits running supply and meal sites, and businesses reopening before plumbing is repaired. Each group usually needs a standard unit and a hand washing station.

Relief sites serving meals should plan 1 hand washing station for every 2 or 3 toilets. Crews follow the OSHA count of 1 toilet per 20 workers. See hand washing stations and the hurricane season porta potty guide.

Where should units go in a flood-damaged area?

Units in a flood-damaged area should go on high, firm ground, on pavement or a driveway, away from debris piles and downed lines. Keep a clear path for the service truck. Do not place units in standing water or on soft, saturated soil, because they can tip or sink.

If a second storm threatens, we contact you to strap or pull the unit again.

Questions people ask before they book

Do you donate units after a disaster?

We work with churches and nonprofits on recovery pricing case by case. Call and tell us about the site.

Is my rented unit insured if a storm hits?

If you follow our storm instructions, you are not charged for storm damage to the unit.

Can I order before the storm to have one ready?

Not during a watch, because units on the ground can become debris. Call as soon as the storm passes and you are first in line.

Do you supply shower trailers?

Not at this time. We supply toilets, hand washing stations and restroom trailers.
